FAFSA: The Critical Question

Not All MRI Schools Are FAFSA-Eligible

FAFSA (Federal Student Aid) only applies to schools with Title IV accreditation. Many vocational MRI training programs are NOT Title IV-eligible. Before assuming FAFSA will apply, ask each school: "Are you Title IV-eligible?" and verify it at studentaid.gov.

For Title IV-eligible programs, FAFSA can unlock:

  • ?Federal Pell Grant (up to ~$7,395/year, income-based, does not need to be repaid)
  • ?Federal Direct Subsidized Loans (interest-free while enrolled)
  • ?Federal Work-Study (part-time employment through the school)

Employer Tuition Reimbursement

If you currently work in a hospital, imaging center, or healthcare system, check your employer's education benefits. Many large California healthcare employers - including Kaiser Permanente, Cedars-Sinai, and county hospital systems - offer tuition reimbursement programs that can cover thousands of dollars of MRI training costs.

The tradeoff is typically a service commitment - you agree to work for the employer for 1–2 years after completing the program. If your target employer offers this, it can be the most financially favorable option available.
