Scholarships for MRI & Imaging Students

National, California-specific, and institution-based scholarships to help fund your MRI training - money you don't have to repay.

National Imaging Scholarships

ASRT Foundation Scholarships

The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Foundation awards scholarships to imaging students through their annual scholarship program. Multiple awards are available for students in various stages of their education, including those in MRI programs. Awards typically range from $1,000–$5,000.

ARRT Foundation Scholarships

The ARRT Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing radiologic technology education, which may include MRI-focused programs. Check eligibility requirements - some awards are specific to ARRT-pathway students.

ISMRM Educational Scholarships

The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) offers educational support programs. More research-oriented, but worth checking for students interested in clinical MRI science.

California-Specific Scholarships

California Radiological Society (CRS) Scholarships

The California Radiological Society may offer educational support for California radiology professionals and students. Check their current programs.

Cal Grant (merit + need-based)

Cal Grant is California's state grant program - technically a grant (not a scholarship) but functions similarly. Income and GPA-based. Apply through FAFSA/CSAC. Grants guide →

Community Foundation Scholarships

Orange County Community Foundation, Los Angeles Community Foundation, and other regional foundations often offer healthcare and allied health scholarships. Search the community foundation for your county for current offerings.

Institutional Scholarships (School-Specific)

Many MRI training programs offer their own institutional scholarships or discounts. These are often not widely advertised - you have to ask. When meeting with a school's financial aid office, specifically ask:

  • ?"Does the school offer any institutional scholarships or financial aid?"
  • ?"Are there merit-based or need-based awards I should apply for?"
  • ?"Are there discounts for healthcare workers, veterans, or previous students?"

Tips for Scholarship Applications

Apply early and often.
Most scholarships have annual deadlines. Set calendar reminders and apply to every scholarship you're eligible for - the time investment per application is usually small relative to the potential award.
Write a compelling personal statement.
Scholarship committees read hundreds of applications. A specific, honest narrative about why you chose MRI and what you'll contribute to the field stands out far more than generic statements.
Get strong recommendation letters.
Ask healthcare professionals, educators, or supervisors who can speak to your aptitude for patient care and technical work - not just generic character references.
Stack scholarships with other aid.
Scholarships can typically be combined with grants, work-study, and institutional payment plans. Each award reduces what you need to borrow or pay out of pocket.
